Dr. Valeriy (Val) Shubinets is a board-certified plastic surgeon with a certificate of added qualifications in hand surgery.

Education & Training

Dr. Shubinets obtained his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed a six-year residency program in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Shubinets went on to pursue an orthopedic hand fellowship at the Curtis National Hand Center and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Originally from Ukraine, Dr. Shubinets and his family immigrated to Chicago, Illinois, when he was 13 years old, and later became U.S. citizens. Dr. Shubinets has received numerous educational awards, including a full-tuition scholarship to the University of Chicago.

During his medical training at Harvard, he was selected to the Health, Science, and Technology (HST) program, which involved additional coursework at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and dedicated research. Additionally, he was chosen for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Medical Research Fellows program as a medical student, which funded a year of independent laboratory research.
