Orthopedic Surgeon
Youssra Marjoua, M.D. is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in conditions of the hand, forearm and elbow. Born in Tunisia, she immigrated to the U.S. with her family at the age of eleven. Dr. Marjoua completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California Berkeley and graduated Magnum Cum Lade. While at Berkeley she was an integral contributor to an integrative biology research lab, and was also a member of the women’s varsity volleyball team.
Dr. Marjoua then earned her medical degree at Yale University School of Medicine. During medical school, she also obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She then applied her graduate studies to contribute as a Health Policy Fellow in the office of a U.S. Senator, as well as to improve the supply chain platform for international orthopaedic care in resource-poor settings.
Dr. Marjoua then returned to complete her medical studies, and to pursue her love of orthopaedic surgery as a resident at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Surgery Program. While at Harvard she served as a chief resident and was co-editor in chief of the Orthopaedic Journal at Harvard Medical School. As a chief resident, she further pursued her interest in health policy as a Washington Health Policy Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and was granted the William H. Thomas Award as the resident that best exemplified excellence in orthopaedics, devotion to patient care, collegiality and teamwork. Dr. Marjoua then completed an upper extremity and microsurgery fellowship at the prestigious Curtis National Hand Center.
Throughout her medical career, Dr. Marjoua has been committed to volunteering as an orthopaedic surgeon to deliver humanitarian orthopaedic care in international resource-poor settings including the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Haiti, Ecuador, Zambia and The West Bank. Her international efforts also include her role as the Director of Global Medicine at OXOS Micro C Imaging, a company developing a portable hand-held x-ray device. She has contributed to numerous orthopaedic research publications and is an active lecturer. She is very excited to join the team at Greater Chesapeake Hand to Shoulder, and to provide exceptional care to her patients.
